By Francisco Salazar

Resonance Works is set to perform Menotti’s “Amahl and the Night Visitors” on Dec. 20 and 22, 2019.

The new, fully-staged production at the New Hazlett Theater on Pittsburgh’s North Side will include festive and virtuosic music by Jessie Montgomery, Jennifer Higdon, Cécile Chaminade, and Nancy Galbraith.

The cast will include mezzo-soprano Olga Perez Flora as Amahl’s Mother, Emmanuel Tsao as Amahl, Jonathan Stuckey as King Balthazar, Rob Chafin as King Kaspar, and Christopher Scott  as King Melchior. Gino Parillo rounds out the cast in the role of the Page.

This year’s performance will also include non-operatic repertoire that features the Resonance Chamber Orchestra and Festival Chorus, including Cécile Chaminade’s virtuosic Flute Concertino with soloist Lindsey Goodman. There will also be two choral works by two time Grammy-winner and Pulitzer Prize laureate Jennifer Higdon, Starburst for strings by Jessie Montgomery, and a new setting of “O Magnum Mysterium” by Pittsburgh’s own Nancy Galbraith.
