By David Salazar

The Resonance Chamber Orchestra and Chorus will present “…of Dark and Bright” on March 21 and 22, 2020 at Levy Halll of the Rodef Shalom Congregation in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The concert will showcase Caroline Shaw’s her choral piece “To the Hands,” Kaija Saariaho’s “Changing Light,” and Missy Mazzoli’s “Dark with Excessive Bright.”

Shaw’s piece, which was commissioned in 2016 by The Crossing, is inspired by Buxtehude’s “Membra Jesu Nostri” and incorporates text from Lazarus’ 1883 sonnet “The New Colossus.”

“Changing Light” will feature soprano Katy Williams and violinist Dawn Posey.

The concert will also include Ottorino Respighi’s Ancient Airs & Dances, Suite 3, Ruth Crawford Seeger’s “Andante for Strings,” Chen Yi’ “Shuo,” and Gabriela Lena Frank’s “Leyendas: An Andean Walkabout.”

In addition to “…of Dark and Bright,” the company will present “Verdi by Vegetables,” “March of the Women,” and “Rigoletto” as part of its 2019-20 season.
