Resonance Works Announces 2023-24 Season

Pittsburgh’s Resonance Works has announced its  2023-24 season.

The season opens with Pauline Viardot’s “Cinderella” at the Studio at the Andrew Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall, Carnegie. Soprano Emily Pulley directs the production and stars as the Fairy Godmother/Viardot. Shannon Jennings and Donovan Elliot Smith star as Cinderella and Prince Charming alongside Katy Lindhart as ​​sassy stepsister Maguelonne and Gabriel Hernandez as the Prince’s right hand, Count Barigoule.

Rounding out the cast are Gillian Hassert and Patrick McNally. Robert Frankenberry plays piano with violinist Maureen Conlon Gutierrez and cellist Elisa Kohanski.

Performance Dates: Oct. 27-29, 2023

The Resonance Chamber Orchestra and Chorus take center stage in “This Love Between Us” centered around Indian-American composer Reena Esmail’s 2016 work “This Love Between Us: Prayers for Unity and Bach’s glorious Magnificat.”

Bach’s “Magnificat” opens the first half of the program along with “Breaking Bread,” a solo work by American composer Nkeiru Okoye. The soloists are soprano Katy Williams, soprano Samina Aslam, mezzo-soprano Tahanee Aluwihare, bass Paul Chwe MinChul An, and sitar player Michael Griska.

Performance Dates: Feb. 2 & 4, 2024

Soprano Zuly Inirio takes the stage for “¡TUMBAO! A Celebration of Afro-Latin Music” at the First United Methodist Church in Bloomfield. The program includes works from traditional Afro-Cuban and Afro-Dominican music, as well as works by Montsalvatge, Bor, Lecuona, and others. The musical and visual celebration of Afro-Latin culture also features pianist Amaury Morales and percussionist Hugo Cruz.

Performance Date: April 28, 2024

The season ends with Rossini’s “La Donna del Lago” starring Timothi Williams and Javier Abreu. The production team will be led by first-time Resonance Works collaborator Marni Raab as stage director, with Artistic Director Maria Sensi Sellner on the podium. The production will be performed at the Charity Randall Theatre, Oakland.
