Renée Fleming, Lise Lindstrom & Stefan Vinke Highlight Oper Leipzig’s 2020 Season

The Oper Leipzig has announced its 2020-21 season featuring four new productions, a Wagner festival, and the Ring Cycle.

Here is a look at the productions for the season.

Premieres

Ulf Schirmer conducts Katharina Wagner’s new production of Wagner’s “Lohengrin.” The cast includes Michael Weinius in the title role, Jennifer Holloway as Elsa, Kathrin Göring as Ortrud and Simon Neal as Telramund. The cast is rounded out by Sebastian Pilgrim and Mathias Hausmann.

Performance Dates: Nov. 15, 2020-May 22, 2021

Roberta Mantegna, Marina Prudenskaya, Gaston Rivero, and Dario Solari star in a new production of Verdi’s “Il Trovatore” by Jakob Peters-Messer. Antonino Fogliani conducts.

Performance Dates: Dec.6, 2020-Feb. 21, 2021

Saint-Saëns’s “Les Barbares” gets a new production by Anthony Pilavachi. David Reiland conducts with a cast that includes Nora Sourouzian, Karin Lovelius, Dominick Chenes, Randall Jakobsh, Matthias Stier, and Jonathan Michie.

Performance Dates: April 3-June 12, 2021

Ulf Schirmer conducts Barbora Horáková Joly’s new production of Gerd Kühr and Hans-Ulrich Treichel’s “Paradiese.” Magdalena Hinterdobler, Christiane Döcker, and Mathias Hausmann star.

Performance Dates: July 9-11, 2021′

 

 

Revivals

Olga Jelinková, Olena Tokar, Matthias Stier, Patrick Vogel, Jonathan Michie, Franz Xaver Schlecht, Sejong Chang, and Randall Jakobsh star in Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte.” Christoph Gedschold’s conducts.

Performance Dates: Sept. 6, 2020-June 26, 2021

Felix Bender conducts “Madama Butterfly” with a cast that includes Saekyung Rim, Karah Son, Sandra Janke, Sandra Maxheimer, Gaston Rivero, and Jonathan Michie.

Performance Dates: Sept. 11-Nov. 8, 2021

Olga Jelinková and Olena Tokar star in the title role of “La Traviata” alongside Matthias Stier and Patrick Vogel who alternate as Alfredo, and Mathias Hausmann as Germont. Enrico Calesso conducts.

Performance Dates: Sept. 12-Dec. 5, 2020

Humperdinck’s “Knusper Knusper Knauschen” is set to star Sandra Janke, Sandra Maxheimer,Christiane Docker, Magdalena Hinterdobler, Kathrin Göring, Karin Lovelius, Jean-Baptiste Mouret, Dan Karlström, and Alvaro Zambrano. Samuel Emanuel and Ulf Schirmer conduct.

Performance Dates: Sept. 16, 2020-Jan. 14, 2021

Felix Bender conducts Donizetti’s “L’Elisir d’Amore” with Olga Jelinková, Bianca Tognocchi, Matthias Stier, Piotr Buszewski, Jonathan Michie, Franz Xaver Schlecht, and Sejong Chang.

Ulf Schirmer conducts “Baby Konzert” with the Gewandhausorchester.

Jennifer Holloway and Elisabet Strid share the title role in R. Strauss’ “Salome,” alongside Michael Weinius, Tuomas Pursio, Patrick Vogel, and Karin Lovelius.

Kathrin Göring stars in the title role of “Carmen” with a cast that includes Magdalena Hinterdobler, Gal James, Olena Tokar, Amadi Lagha, Sébastien Guèze, Gezim Myshketa, and Dario Solari. Matthias Foremny conducts.

Performance Dates: Nov. 17-My 1, 2020

Sandra Janke, Sandra Maxheimer, Magdalena Hinterdobler, and Olena Tokar lead Humperdinck’s “Hansel and Gretel” with Franz Xaver Schlecht, Dan Karlström, Alvaro Zambrano, Matthias Stier, Kathrin Göring, and Karin Lovelius. Christoph Gedschold and Ulf Schirmer conduct.

Performance Dates: Dec. 1-20, 2020

Noel Bouley, Simon Neal and Iain Patterson star in the title role of Wagner’s “Der Fliegende Holländer” with Aile Asszonyi, Elisabet Strid, and Christiane Libor sharing the role of Senta.

The cast is rounded out by Randall Jakobsh and Patrick Vogel. Christoph Gedschold and Ulf Schirmer conduct.

Gal James and Olena Tokar highlight “La Bohème” with Magdalena Hinterdobler, Robert Watson, Jonathan Michie, Franz Xaver Schlecht, and Sejong Chang rounding out of the cast. Christoph Gedschold conducts.

Ulf Schirmer conducts the New Years Eve Silvergala with a number of soloists to be announced.

Ulf Schirmer conducts Wagner’s “Tristan und Isolde” with Meagan Miller and Stefan Vinke, Barbara Kozelj, Jukka Rasilanien, Sebastian Pilgrim, Jukka Rasilainen, and Matthias Stier.

Performance Dates: Jan. 10 & March 13, 2021

Maria Bengtsson and Renée Fleming highlight R. Strauss’ “Capriccio” with Roman Trekel and Matthias Hausmann. The cast will also include Kathrin Göring, Patrick Vogel, Jonathan Michie, Sebastian Pilgrim, Matthias Stier, Alvaro Zambrano, and Martin Blasius. Ulf Schirmer conducts.

Christoph Gedschold conducts Verdi’s “Nabucco” with Mlada Khudoley as Abigaille, Sandra Janke as Fenena, Anooshah Golesorkhi in the title role, Randall Jakobsh as Zaccaria and Gaston Rivero as Ismaele.

Performance Dates: Feb. 27-May 29, 2021

Marius Felix Lange “Snow White” returns with Magdalena Hinterdobler, Lili Wunscher, Sandra Janke, Sandra Maxheimer, Jennifer Zein, Randall Jakobsh, Alvaro Zambrano, Martin Petzold, Franz Xaver Schlecht, Jonathan Michie, Dan Karlström, and Sejong Chang. Felix leads the production.

Performance Dates: March 5-May 16, 2021

 

 

The Ring Cycle 

Ulf Schirmer leads Wagner’s epic masterpiece in Rosamund Gilmore’s production. The production will star Katherine Broderick, Lise Lindstrom, Iréne Theorin, and Daniela Köhler sharing the role of Brünnhilde.

The cast will also include Jonathan Stoughton and Michael Weinius as Siegfried, Elisabet Strid as Sieglinde, Magnus Vigilius as Siegmund, Vladimir Baykov, Iain Paterson and Tuomas Pursio as Wotan and Kathrin Göring as Fricka and Waltraute.

The cast is rounded out by Gal James, Kay Stiefermann, Sebastian Pilgrim, Randall Jakobsh, Karin Lovelius, Olga Jelinková, Dan Karlström, Magdalena Hinterdobler, Sandra Maxheimer, Sandra Janke, Anooshah Golesorkhi, Matthias Stier, Thomas Mohr, James Moellenhoff, and Kay Stiefermann.

Cycle Dates: April 14-18, 2021 & May 5-9, 2021

Wagner Festival 

Wagner’s “Rienzi” is set to star Stefan Vinke in the title role role, Vida Mikneviciute, Kathrin Göring, Sebastian Pilgrim, Franz Xaver Schlecht, Sejong Chang, Matthias Stier, and Randall Jakobsh. Matthias Foremny conducts.

Performance Dates: May 30 & June 19, 2021

Liene Kinča, Magdalena Hinterdobler, Sandra Maxheimer, Christiane Kohl, Olga Jelinková, Sejong Chang, Roy Cornelius Smith, Nikolay Borchev, Randall Jakobsh, Patrick Vogel, Roland Schubert, and Tae Hee Kwon highlight Wagner’s “Die Feen” with Christoph Gedschold conducting.

Performance Dates: June 5 & 18, 2021

Wagner’s “Die Liebesverbot” concludes the season with a cast that includes Manuela Uhl, Olena Tokar, Athanasia Zöhrer, Martin Petzold, Dan Karlström, Mirko Roschkowski, Matthias Stier, Franz Xaver Schlecht, Padraic Rowan, and Tuomas Pursio. Christoph Gedschold conducts.
