Renée Fleming, Joyce DiDonato, Fatma Said, Danielle De Niese, Roderick Williams Headline Edinburgh International Festival 2021

The Edinburgh International Festival has announced its 2021 slate.

For the purposes of this article, we will only focus on operatic or vocal performances.

Opening the season will be “A Grand Night of Singing” starring Danielle de Niese, Kim Criswell, Anna-Jane Casey, Damian Humbley, and Richard Morrison. Wayne Marshall leads the Edinburgh Festival Ensemble.

Performance Dates: August 8-13, 2021

Thomas Søngerård will lead a performance of Mendelssohn’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” with the Members of Edinburgh Festival Chorus.

Performance Date: August 11, 2021

 Soprano Mari Eriksmoen and pianist Daniel Heide take on music by Grieg, Schumann, Wolf, and Grøndahl.

Performance Date: August 11, 2021

Pianist Malcolm Martineau presents a concert featuring music by Schubert, Haydn, Sibelius, and Beethoven alongside such artists as soprano Elizabeth Watts, baritone Roderick Williams, and others.

Mezzo-soprano Andrea Baker leads a performance of Judith Weir’s “woman.life.song” and a new work by Ayanna Witter-Johnson.

Katharine Mehrling and pianist Barrie Kosky take on music by Kurt Weill.

Performance Date: August 20-21, 2021

Gerald Finley and Julius Drake take on Schumann’s “Dichterliebe” and Schubert’s “Schwanengesang.”

Joyce DiDonato and Il Pomo d’Oro take on music by Monteverdi, Rameau, Händel, and Rossi.

Bass-baritone Thomas Quasthoff will join forces with three other German jazz stars in a concert dedicated to his listeners.

Soprano Renée Fleming and pianist Hartmut Höll take on music by Händel, Fauré, and Strauss.

Soprano Fatma Said and pianist Malcolm Martineau perform music by Mozart, Ravel, de Falla, and Lorca.

Performance Date: August 27, 2021

Members of the Edinburgh Festival Chorus will present a concert alongside conductor Aidan Oliver.
