Renée Fleming Announces New Lieder Album
By Francisco SalazarRenée Fleming has announced her new CD for Decca Classics.
The soprano will release her first full-length Lieder album in almost two decades. Fleming is joined by Christian Thielemann and the Munich Philharmonic, performing Mahler’s Rückert Lieder. She will also perform songs by Schumann and Brahms with Hartmut Höll at the piano.
In a press release, Fleming noted, “The German lied is, for me, both the foundation and the pinnacle of song literature. I am especially excited to have been able to collaborate with some of the greatest interpreters in the world for this repertoire. My performances and recordings with Christian Thielemann have been among the most artistically rewarding experiences in my life, and to sing the Mahler songs with him and the Münchner Philharmoniker was heaven. It was also a joy to record Brahms and Schumann with Hartmut Höll, who is world-famous as a master of the German lied.”
The album is set for release on June 14 and will coincide with the soprano’s London musical theatre debut, performing the role of Margaret Johnson in the “The Light in the Piazza” at Royal Festival Hall.
