René Pape, Olga Peretyatko, & Sonya Yoncheva Highlight Staatsoper Unter Den Linden’s 2020-21 Season

The Staatsoper Unter Den Linden has announced its 2020-21 season, which features eight new productions and numerous revivals.

Premieres

Barbara Wysocka directs Francesconi’s “Quartett” with Daniel Barenboim conducting  Mojca Erdmann and Thomas Oliemanns.

Performance Dates: Oct. 3-18, 2020

Mozart’s “Mitridate, Re di Ponto”  is set to be conducted by Marc Minkowski and directed by Satoshi Miyagi. Pene Pati, Julie Fuchs, Elsa Dreisig, Jakub Józef Orlinski, and Anna Prohaska star.

Performance Dates: Nov. 13-28, 2020

Roberto Alagna and Sonya Yoncheva star in Calixto Bieito ·production of Wagner’s “Lohengrin”  alongside René Pape, Ekaterina Gubanova, Martin Gantner, and Adam Kutny. Matthias Pintscher conducts.

Performance Dates: Dec. 13, 2020-Jan. 2, 2021

Adrian Heger conducts “Pinocchio Abenteuer” in a production by Swaantje Lena Kleff. Sarah Aristidou and Hanna Herfurtner star.

Performance Dates: Jan. 19-Feb. 6, 2021

Damiano Michieletto directs a new production of Janacek’sJenufa” with Camilla Nylund in the title role. Stuart Skelton, Hanna Schwarz, Ladislav Elgr, Evelyn Herlitzius, and Jan Martinik round out the cast with Simon Rattle conducting.

Performance Dates: Feb. 14-27, 2021

Daniel Barenboim conducts Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” with Vincent Huguet directing. Gyula Orendt, Elsa Dreisig, Nadine Sierra, Riccardo Fassi, Marianne Crebassa, Waltraud Meier, and Siegfried Jerusalem.

Performance Dates: March 27-April 4, 2021

Georg Friedrich Haas’ “Thomas” is conducted by Max Renne with Barbora Horáková Joly directing.

Performance Dates: April 16-30, 2021

Antonio Pappano conducts Puccini’s  “La Fanciulla del West” with Lydia Steier directing. The cast is headed by Anja Kampe in the title role with Yusif Eyvazov and Michael Volle.

Revivals 

Andrés Orozco-Estrada conducts Debussy, Berlioz, and Stravinsky’s “Sacre.”

Performance Dates: August 27-30, 2020

Liudmyla Monastyrska, Vladislav Sulimsky, Adrian Sâmpetrean, Violeta Urmana, and Marcelo Álvarez star in Verdi’s “Il Trovatore.” Massimo Zanetti conducts.

Performance Dates: Sept. 4-24, 2020

Nicolai’s “Die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor” returns to the stage with René Pape, Michael Volle, Roman Trekel, Wilhelm Schwinghammer, Pavol Breslik, Linard Vrielink, David Oštrek, Mandy Fredrich, Michaela Schuster, and Anna Prohaska. Thomas Guggeis conducts.

A production of “Walk the Walk” is set to be performed.

Wagner’s “Der Fliegende Holländer” returns to the stage with Matthias Goerne, Kwangchul Youn, Elena Stikhina, and Stephan Rügamer. Thomas Guggeis conducts.

Rainelle Krause, Grigory Shkarupa, Julian Prégardien, Serena Sáenz, Arttu Kataja, Victoria Randem, and Kathryn Lewek star in the second cast. Giuseppe Mentuccia and Anna Milukova conduct.

The season will also include a number of concerts, the Festwoche, the 450 anniversary of the Staatskapelle de Berlín and Beethoven’s 250 anniversary. Concerts will feature René Pape, Klaus Florian Vogt, Daniela Barcellona, Ildar Abdrazakov, Waltraud Meier, Michael Volle, and Eric Cutler, among others.
