Ravenna Festival Announces 2024 Season

Italy’s Ravenna Festival has announced its 2024 season. Here are the vocal performances.

The season will include the summer program which runs from May 11 through July 9 and the opera trilogy which runs from Nov. 15 to 21.

Ottavio Dantone conducts the Accademia Bizantina and the Philharmonia Chor Wien in Haydn’s “The Creation.”Soloists include Charlotte Bowden, Martin Vanberg, and Andre Morsch.

The Marian Consort performs the music of Vicente Lusitano, Tomás Luis de Victoria, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, Dom Pedro de Cristo, Ghiselin Danckerts, Nicola Vicentino, and João Lourenço Rebelo.

Performance Date: June 1, 2024

The Marian Consort performs the music of Dominique Phinot, Dom Pedro de Cristo, Ghiselin Danckerts, and Tomás Luis de Victoria

“L’Amfiparnaso di Orazio Vecchi” will be performed by La Stagione Armonica, conducted by Sergio Balestracci, and directed by Alessandro Bressanello.

“Il Nuovo e l’Antico” will be performed by La Stagione Armonica and conducted by Sergio Balestracci.

La Stagione Armonica will perform the music of William Byrd, Edvard Grieg, and Giovan Battista Fergusio.

Laura Morante presents “Prime done,” the women in Giacomo Puccini’s works. The concert is a tribute for the 100th anniversary of the composer’s death. The evening will feature soprano Francesca De Blasi, violinist Davide Alogna, and pianist Antonello d’Onofrio.

The Irini Ensemble takes on 13-14th century Mediterranean Marian devotional songs

Sir Simon Rattle conducts the Chamber Orchestra of Europe with mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožená.

Coro Ecce Novum will perform music by Claudio Monteverdi.

Riccardo Muti conducts the Orchestra Giovanile “Luigi Cherubini” and the Coro della Cattedrale di Siena “Guido Chigi Saracini” in Schubert’s Symphony No. 4 and Giovanni Sollima’s Stabat Mater.

The soloists are countertenor Nicolò Balducci, cellist Giovanni Sollima, and theremin player Lina Gervasi.

The Coro della Cattedrale di Siena “Guido Chigi Saracini” performs music by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, Lorenzo Donati, Charles Camille Saint-Saëns, and Luigi Molfino.

Opera Trilogy 

There will be two staged titles directed by Pier Luigi Pizzi and featuring Accademia Bizantina led by Ottavio Dantone. The titles are Monteverdi’s “Il ritorno di Ulisse in patria” and Purcell’s “Dido and Aeneas.” There will also be a recital.
