Ravenna Festival Announces 2022 Season

The Ravenna Festival has announced its 2022 season.

For the purposes of this article we will focus on the Italian festival’s vocal performances.

The Mahler Chamber Orchestra led by Daniel Harding conductor will showcase “Azio Corghi Tra la carne e il cielo,” a poetical dramaturgy Maddalena Mazzocut-Mis from Pier Paolo Pasolini for concertante cello, male narrator, soprano, piano, and orchestra. soloists will include Silvia Chiesa, Maurizio Baglini, Valentina Coladonato, and Sandro Lombardi. The program will also include music by Beethoven and Dvořák.

“In templo Domini – Liturgies in the Basilicas” will be performed by Coro dell’Istituto Superiore di Studi Musicali “Giuseppe Verdi”

Performance Date: June 5, 2022

Ian Bostridge leads Britten’s “The Canticles” with Alexandre Chance, Mauro Borgioni, Julius Drake, Antonella De Franco, and Federico Fantozzi.

Performance Dates: June 9, 2022

“Calēre (paths)” will feature the Coro Ensemble Vocescordis, Claudio Rigotti, Anna Rigotti, Laura Rigotti, and Decio Biavati.

Performance Date: June 10, 2022

“In templo Domini – Liturgies in the Basilicas” will be performed by Coro Ecce Novum and Gruppo Vocale Teleion.

Performance Date: June 12, 2022

As part of the Pier Paolo Pasolini Film Festival, “Medea,” starring Maria Callas, will be presented.

Performance Date: June 15, 2022

“In templo Domini – Liturgies in the Basilicas” will be performed by Ludus Vocalis.

Performance Date: June 19, 2022

Christian Federici  will perform Transitus The Sky of St. Francis

Performance Dates: June 20-26, 2022

The Accademia Bizantina will be led by Ottavio Dantone in Johann Sebastian Bach’s Musikalisches Opfer.

Performance Date: June 22, 2022

“In templo Domini – Liturgies in the Basilicas” will be performed by Gruppo Vocale Heinrich Schütz.

Performance Date: June 26, 2022

The Orlando Consort will perform music by Johannes Ciconia, Guillaume Dufay, Johannes Ockeghem, Antoine Busnoys, Gilles Binchois, Hayne van Ghizeghem, Robert Morton, Loyset Compère, Antoine Brumel, Francisco de Peñalosa, Francisco de La Torre, and Josquin Desprez.

Performance Date: July 2, 2022

Juri Camisasca, Alice, and Simone Cristicchi will perform Messa Arcaica e Canzoni Mistiche.

Performance Date: July 2, 2022

The Orlando Consort will perform “In templo Domini – Liturgies in the Basilicas.”

Performance Date: July 3, 2022

The festival will also showcase Storia di un figlio cattivo in the footsteps of Augustine of Hippo by Filippo Bittasi and Matteo Gatta.

Autumn Trilogy

“Le Nozze di Figaro” is set to be conducted by  Giovanni Conti and directed by Ivan Alexandre.

Performance Dates: Oct. 31 & Nov. 4, 2022

“Don Giovanni” will be conducted by Erina Yashima and directed by Ivan Alexandre.

Performance Dates: Nov. 1 & 5, 2022

“Così fan tutte” will be conducted by Vladimir Ovodok and directed by Ivan Alexandre.

Performance Dates: Nov. 2 & 6, 2022
