The Teatro La Fenice is set to open its 2025-26 season with a production of Mozart’s “La Clemenza di Tito” on Nov. 20, 2025.

The new production will be directed by Paul Curran and conducted by Ivor Bolton.

The all-star cast will be led by Daniel Behle, who sings the role of Tito Vespasiano. He will be joined by Anastasia Bartoli as Vitellia, Cecilia Molinari as Sesto,  Nicolò Balducci as Annio, Francesca Aspromonte as Servilia, and Domenico Apollonio as Publio.

In a statement about the production, Curran said, “As in the eighteenth-century world, the word ‘clemency’ should have much more importance in today’s world. People who hold enormous power should understand that clemency—the ability to forgive others—should be given much more weight and centrality, along with kindness. Unfortunately, however, we live in a very harsh world, and this has been especially evident in recent months, or rather, the last year. I live in the United States, where we find ourselves in a situation of political extremism, but I believe it is the same everywhere. Instead of beating, excluding, and killing people, we should understand that everyone can make mistakes and do harm, but that we must also have the ability to forgive and move on. So this word should absolutely come back alive and relevant in today’s vocabulary.”

For those not in Venice, the production will be streamed on the radio on Rai Radio 3. The production will also be performed on Nov. 23, 25, 27, and 30.
