Rai Cultura to Broadcast Maggio Musicale’s ‘Otello’

The Maggio Musicale Fiorentino has announced that it will broadcast Verdi’s “Otello” on Nov. 30.

The Italian house will showcase a new production by Valerio Binasco and conducted by Zubin Mehta on Rai Cultura’s Rai5.

The opera will star Fabio Sartori in his role debut as Otello and Marina Rebeka as Desdemona, also in her role debut. Luca Salsi rounds out the cast as Iago with Riccardo Della Sciucca as Cassio, Caterina Piva as Emilia, and Alessio Cacciamani as Lodovico. Claudia De Toma will direct the televised performance.

In a statement, Alexander Pereira said, “This Otello represents our ‘prima autunnale.’ It was originally scheduled for our festival and we did everything to finally perform it. We are very happy that Rai Cultura will broadcast it on Nov. 30 with this marvelous cast. ”

The Nov. 30 broadcast will represent the company’s only performance of “Otello” this season.
