Rai5 will finally present the Teatro San Carlo’s opening night production of Dvořák’s “Rusalka.”
The opera, which was originally set to be shown on Nov. 20, 2024, will be broadcast on May 29. The production is directed by Dmitri Tcherniakov and conducted by Dan Ettinger.
Asmik Grigorian stars in the title role alongside Adam Smith as the Prince, Ekaterina Gubanova as the Foreign Princess, Anita Rachvelishvili as Ježibaba, and Gabor Bretz as Vodník. Peter Hoare, Maria Riccarda Wesseling, Julietta Aleksanyan, Iulia Maria Dan, Valentina Pluzhnikova, and Andrey Zhilikhovsky round out the cast.
When the production opened, critics raved and said, “Asmik Grigorian delivered a luminous and emotionally profound portrayal of Rusalka, combining technical brilliance with heartfelt vulnerability,” and “Anita Rachvelishvili brought a commanding stage presence and a mezzo-soprano of extraordinary richness to Jezibaba.”
