Rai 3 to Broadcast ‘Turandot’ from Arena di Verona with Ekaterina Semenchuk
By Francisco SalazarRai 3 is joining forces with the Arena di Verona once again to televise Puccini’s “Turandot.”
The broadcast will be on August 19 in Franco Zeffirelli’s production featuring costumes by Oscar-winning designer Emi Wada.
The cast will include mezzo-soprano Ekaterina Semenchuk in the title role alongside Yusif Eyvazov as Calaf. The cast will also include Mariangela Sicilia, Riccardo Fassi, Youngjun Park, Matteo Macchioni, Riccardo Rados, and Hao Tian.
Michele Spotti conducted the production.
Semenchuk has performed the role of Turandot around the world including at the Mariinsky Theatre while Eyvazov recently completed a new production of the opera at the Teatro alla Scala. He has three recordings of the opera from the Metropolitan Opera, Teatro alla Scala and Arena di Verona.
Rai 3 also announced that it will rebroadcast the Arena di Verona’s opening night concert on August 1 and will be available on RaiPlay for 21 days.
