Quinn Kelsey, Emily D’Angelo & Saimir Pirgu Headline Toronto Symphony Orchestra 2020-21 Season

The Toronto Symphony Orchestra has announced its 2020-21 season, featuring a number of vocal and orchestral works.

For the purpose of this article, we will highlight vocal works.

Canadian mezzo-soprano Emily D’Angelo will take part in a concert featuring Mozart arias conducted by  Gustavo Gimeno.

Performance Dates: Sept. 23-27, 2020

Soprano Karina Gauvin performs in a concert featuring works by Beethoven. The program will include the Egmont Overture and Symphony No. 2. Gustavo Gimeno conducts.

Performance Dates: Oct. 16-18, 2020

Handel’s “Messiah” returns in celebration of the holiday season with Lauren Snouffer, Rihab Chaieb, Michael Colvin and Stephen Hegedus. Michael Francis conducts.

Performance Dates: Dec. 15-20, 2020

Barbara Hannigan conducts a concert featuring Julia Dawson, Charles Sy and Douglas Williams. The program will include Haydn’s Symphony No. 90 and Stravinsky’s “Pulcinella.”

Performance Dates: Jan. 14 & 16, 2021

Verdi and Piave’s “Rigoletto” will get concert performances starring Quinn Kelsey in the title role, Sofia Fomina as Gilda and Saimir Pirgu as the Duke. Gustavo Gimeno conducts the performances which also star Rinat Shaham, Alain Coulombe, Joel Allison, Matthew Dalen, Geoffrey Sirett, Vartan Gabrielian and Rebecca Cuddy.

Performance Dates: Feb. 25 & 28, 2021

Gustavo Gimeno and Soprano Siobhan Stagg join forces for a programming including for Messiaen’s “L’Ascension” and Mahler’s Symphony No. 4.

Performance Dates: April 1 & 3, 2021
