Pumeza Matshikiza & Scott Hendricks lead Opera National Du Rhin’s 2019-20 Season

The Opera National du Rhin has announced its 2019-20 season featuring a number of new productions and world premieres.

Giuliano Carella conducts the opening night gala with soloists Olivier Breitman, Ambroisine Bré, Pumeza Matshikiza, and Ezgi Kutlu.

Performance Dates: Sept. 25-28, 2019

Philip Venable’s “4.48 Psychosis” gets its first production by Ted Huffman, who directed the work at the Royal Opera House. The production is set to be conducted by Richard Baker and star Gweneth-Ann Rand, Allegra Parton, and Susanna Hure.

Performance Dates: Sept. 18-22, 2019

Antony Hermus conducts Nicola Raab’s new production of Dvorak’s “Rusalka” with Pumeza Matshikiza in the title role and Stephen Costello as the Prince.

Performance Dates: Oct. 18-Nov. 10, 2019

Jerry Bock’s “Un Violon sur le Toit” gets a new production with Koen Schoots conducting. Barrie Kosky directs the production, which stars Olivier Breitman, Jasmine Roy, Neïma Naouri, and Marie Oppert

Performance Dates: Dec. 6, 2019-Jan 12, 2020

“Marlène Baleine” based on renaissance music will get its world premiere in a production by Bérénice Collet. Clara Guillon, Eugénie Joneau, and Jacob Scharfman star.

Performance Date: Dec. 18, 2019-Jan. 26, 2020

Amon Miyamoto directs a new production of Wagner’s “Parsifal” with Marko Letonja conducting. Thomas Blondelle sings the title role alongside Markus Marquardt, Konstantin Gorny, Ante Jerkunica, Simon Bailey, and Christianna Stotijn.

Performance Dates: Jan. 26-Feb 23, 2020

Thierry Pécou’s “Until the Lions — Échos du Mahabharata” makes its world premiere with Marie Jacquot conducting. The new production will be directed by Shobana Jeyasingh and will star Cody Quattlebaum, Noa Frenkel, Mirella Hagen, and Anaïs Yvoz.

Performance Dates: March 21-April 7 2020

Mozart’s “Così Fan Tutte” gets a new production by David Hermann with Jacques Lacombe conducting. Gemma Summerfield and Ambroisine Bré star.

Performance Dates: May 3-June 7, 2020

Howard Moody’s new opera “Les Rêveurs de la Lune” makes its world premiere with Sandra Pocceschi and Giacoma Strada directing. The work is set to star  Clara Guillon, Thomas Kiechle, Eugénie Joneau, and Gautier Jouber with Moody conducting.

Performance Dates: May 6-29, 2020

Scott Hendricks, Brigitta Kele and Sonia Ganassi star in a new production of “Il Trovatore.”  Daniele Callegari conducts the production by Jean-Philippe Clarac and Olivier Deloeuil.

Performance Dates: June 12-July 5, 2020

Recitals 

Stéphanie d’Oustrac and Pascal Jourdan team up for a program of music by Berlioz, Liszt, and Viardot.

Performance Date: Oct. 19, 2019

Michael Spyres and pianist Roger Vignoles perform a program of music by Schubert, Rossini, Bellini, Liszt, Saint-Saëns, Wolf, Debussy, Strauss, Hahn, and Schoenberg.

Performance Date: Dec. 7, 2019

Patricia Petibon teams up with Susan Manoff for an evening of de Falla, Bacri, Fauré, Turina, Granados, Debussy, and Collet.

Performance Date: Feb. 5, 2020

Aruna Sairam is set to do a recital accompanied by a chamber orchestra.

Performance Date: March 26, 2020

Günther Groissböck will appear in recital with a program to be announced. The pianist will be Gerold Huber.

Performance Date: May 11, 2020

Stanislas de Barbeyrac and Alphonse Cemin perform in an intimate recital setting.

Performance Date: June 18, 2020
