South African soprano Pumeza Matshikiza has confirmed that she has been diagnosed with COVID-19.

The soprano announced via social media that she had tested positive for the virus three days after being hospitalized for “stomach pain, a constant feeling of dizziness, vomiting, high temperature, and feeling cold.”

“Thank you for all your good health wishes! Really much appreciated! I’d like to answer you all but I’m too tired to write. I tested positive for corona. I need to stay in hospital a bit longer than I expected,” the soprano added.

Matshikiza is an internationally recognized soprano who has performed at the Royal Opera House, Opera North, Teatro alla Scala, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, and Opera National du Rhin. She is an exclusive recording artist with Decca.

Matshikiza is the latest opera singer to be diagnosed with the deadly virus following such stars as Hibla Gerzmava, Plácido Domingo, and Andrea Bocelli.
