Puccini, Monteverdi & Rossini Highlight Opera Columbus’ 2019-20 Season

Opera Columbus has announced its 2019-20 season set to featuring four main stage productions.

The season opens with “Twisted 3” which will see Columbus’ flagship performing arts organizations, BalletMet, CAPA, Columbus Symphony, and Opera Columbus, reunite for a multi-disciplinary celebration of the performing arts.

During the performance, there will be an abbreviated version of Puccini’s “Gianni Schicchi” featuring director Josh Shaw and conductor Kathleen Kelly. Robert Kerr will sing the title role while Keyona Willis is Lauretta, Emily Spencer is Zita, and John David Nevergall will sing Rinuccio.

Performance Dates: Sept. 26-29, 2019

The company will showcase “As One” by Laura Kaminsky, Mark Campbell and Kimberly Reed with Carpe Diem String Quartet, Conductor Alexandra Enyart, Michael Kelly, and Blythe Gaissert.

Kimberly Reed will also showcase a film for the performance.

Performance Dates: Nov. 8 & 10, 2019

Mary Birnbaum directs Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” with Viswa Subbaraman conducting and Xiaomeng Zhang in the title role.

Performance Dates: Feb. 14 & 16, 2020

The season ends with “The Poppea Project,” a co-production with the Pizzuti Collection of the Columbus Museum of Art, in partnership with Fashion Week Columbus and BalletMet.

The production is set among three galleries of the Pizzuti Collection of CMA with performers wearing custom couture glide between all three floors of the galleries while interacting with audience members. The show will also hand out Masks to audience members allowing guests to be part of the production.

Director Peggy Kriha Dye showcases her talents in the production conducted by Kelly Kuo and starring Mireille Lebel, Mireille Asselin, Tesia Kwarteng, Alex Rosen, and Kevin Skelton.
