By David Salazar

The PROTOTYPE: Opera / Theatre / Now Festival has unveiled its 2025 season.

“This season, we celebrate another extraordinary group of creatives as they tell the stories of our shared experience, tracing the threads that connect us across eras, cultures, dreams, and memories,” said an official press statement issued by the Directors of the festival. “We also celebrate the incredible partnership with HERE and our beloved co-founder and co-curator Kristin Marting in her final season with us. Kristin’s singular artistic vision will always remain at the heart of PROTOTYPE, and we look forward to sharing another swath of her brilliance with you this January!”

Here is a rundown of the offerings coming this January.

First up is “Eat the Document” at the HERE Mainstage. The John Glover and Kelley Rourke Opera “shifts between the protests in the 1970s and the consequences of those choices in the 1990s” to create “an alternative opera that explores the connection between the two eras—their language, technology, music, and activism.”

Kristin Marting directs and Mila Henry conducts.

Performance Dates: Jan. 9 – 17, 2025

Another NY premiere, Sol Ruiz’s “Positive Vibration Nation” takes the stage of HERE’s Dorothy B. Williams THeatre. The work is described as “blending live performance with integrated technology, the new work fuses sound, visual art, costume, and music with Caribbean influences to investigate contemporary issues, explore Miami’s cultural singularity, and convey a positive message to audiences. ”

Performance Dates: Jan. 10 – 13, 2025

David T. Little and Anne Waldman’s “Black Lodge” gets its New York Premiere at the Village East by Angelica.
