Prismatic Arts Ensemble to Present ‘Drag Messiah’

By David Salazar

Prismatic Arts Ensemble will present “Drag Messiah,” an LGBTQIA+ reinterpretation of the holiday classic, on Dec. 19–20, 2025 at The Perch Music and Arts Workshop in Philadelphia.

The production features Philadelphia-based Drag performers Balena Canto and Violet Caballero, winner of Philadelphia Magazine’s 2025 Best of Philly for their gender-bending, opera-infused draglesque performances.

Local musicians and choirs, including the Fishtown-based Chill Choir, will join the duo for community sing-along sections. Sarah Michal, conductor of the New Jersey Gay Men’s Chorus, leads the ensemble.

Prismatic Arts Ensemble has also commissioned a new text by Balena Canto, incorporating references to popular memes and drag culture.

There will also be a raffle during both performances in support of GALAEI, a Fishtown-area QTBIPOC social justice organization.

“Many of the singers that I know are queer and/or gender non-conforming and it feels incredibly important to have a space to celebrate queer joy and creativity, especially at this time when members of these communities are under attack,” said Marcelle McGuirk, ExecutiveDirector of Prismatic Arts Ensemble, in an official press release.

The performances kick off at 7:30 p.m. local time.
