Diana Damrau has canceled her performances of Donizetti’s ‘Lucia di Lammermoor” at the Bayerische Staatsoper in 2018-19.

The soprano, who was originally scheduled to sing the title role when the 2018-19 season was announced has canceled all engagements of the title role, per her website. As a result, Pretty Yende will take over the performances which are scheduled for June 2019.

Damrau returns to Munich in July for performances of “La Traviata” and also sings the opera at the Metropolitan Opera where she is scheduled to open a new production. She also opens a new production of “Les Huguenots” at the Opéra de Paris.

Pretty Yende recently performed the title role of “Lucia di Lammermoor” at the Metropolitan Opera and the Opéra de Paris. Yende next performs “L’Elisir d’Amore” at the Bayerische Staatsoper and makes her role debut in Rossini’s “Ricciardo e Zoraide” at the Rossini Opera Festival.
