Pretty Yende Cancels Deutsche Oper Berlin Performances

By Francisco Salazar

Pretty Yende has canceled her upcoming performance of Bellini’s ”La Sonnambula” at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.

The soprano announced that due to health conditions she would not be able to perform the role of Amina.

She said, “It grieves my heart and soul that I have to unfortunately not perform my scheduled engagements as Amina Deutsche oper Berlin due to the gravity of my health circumstance that I’ve been enduring the past few weeks. I’m terribly sorry to all my fans and family in Berlin. I promise to come back even stronger as soon as I and my health advisers have this sorted. I’m ok, I’ll be even better. Thank you all for your understanding when you don’t see much of me on social network for a while. Wishing Venera Gimadieva & Lawrence Brownlee as well as the entire cast and crew a wonderful time for their performances.

As a result, Venera Gimadieva will sing the title role on May 19 and 25. Gimadieva is no stranger to “La Sonnambula” as she has performed the role earlier season in Berlin. The soprano has performed all over the world including the Glyndebourne Festival, the Washington National Opera, Wiener Staatsoper, Opera de Bordeaux, and Bayerische Staatsoper among others.

Gimadieva joins Lawrence Brownlee and  Ante Jerkunica with conductor Stephan Zilias.
