President Trump Gets Booed At Kennedy Center as Drag Queens Get Cheered On

By Francisco Salazar

President Trump was greeted at the Kennedy Center with boos from the audience before a performance of “Les Misérables.”

As the President entered the theater, crowd members booed him. However, there were a vast number of his supporters who started cheering “USA USA.” As those chants slowly died out, the boos started up again.

The evening also saw four drag queens arrive to enthusiastic cheers. The Drag Queens were in attendance to protest the president, who banned all Drag shows at the Kennedy Center upon taking over.

During a highly secure and empty red carpet, Trump was asked about performers who boycotted the show and said he didn’t care. He also answered questions about the LA Protests and noted that he would be eating popcorn and drinking soda during the performance.

The evening saw appearances by the First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, and Second Lady Usha Vance. Some of his cabinet members were also in attendance, as was Richard Grenell, the interim president of the Kennedy Center.

The opening night performance of “Les Misérables” has recently been in the headlines as it was reported that tickets were selling for up to $2 million, while 10 to 12 performers boycotted the show.

The Kennedy Center was recently in the headlines following a report by the Washington Post, which was then corroborated by the New York Times, that revealed that the performing arts center had seen a drastic decline in ticket sales and subscription revenue since the Trump takeover. The New York Times reported that, according to data compiled by anonymous employees, “single-ticket sales were down roughly 50 percent in April and May, compared with the same period in 2024.” The report also noted that revenue was down 82 percent for theater and 57 percent for dance. Meanwhile, the National Symphony Orchestra saw a decline in subscriptions by 28 percent, and the Washington National Opera saw subscriptions down by 25 percent.
