
Premios Opera XXI Announces 2025 Winners
By Francisco SalazarThe Premios Ópera XXI have announced its 2024 winners which will be honored on June 17, 2025 at the Palau de Les Arts de Valencia.
The winner of Best Music Direction went to Pablo Heras-Casado for “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg” at the Teatro Real while the Best Director award was given to Calixto Bieito for “Lear” by Aribert Reimann at the Teatro Real.
The Best Singer award went to bass-baritone Simón Orfila for Escamillo in “Carmen” at the Gran Teatre del Liceu de Barcelona as well as Zaccaria “Nabucco” at the Teatro de la Maestranza de Sevilla, among others.
Mezzo-soprano Silvia Tro Santafé also took home the Best Singer trophy for Elisabetta in “Maria Stuarda” at the Palau de Les Arts de Valencia.
Best Young Singer was awarded to baritone Jan Antem for his participation in “The Telephone” at the Festival Perelada and for his work as Dancaïre in “Carmen” at the Gran Teatre del Liceu.
Gerald Finley won the Best International Artist award for his work on “Antony & Cleopatra” at the Gran Teatre del Liceu and for “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg” at the Teatro Real.
Best Design went to Alfons Flores for “Carmen: at the Gran Teatre del Liceu while Best Lighnting went to Albert Faura” for “La Bella Susona” at the Teatro de la Maestranza as well Zarzuelas at the Teatro de La Zarzuela, among many other productions.
Best Costume design was awarded to Gabriela Salaverri for “La verbena de la paloma” at the Teatro de la Zarzuela and the Best Video Design was awarded to Joan Fontcuberta for “Winterreise” at the Gran Teatre del Liceu.
The Best New Creation was awarded to “Tránsito” by Jesús Torres at the Palau de Les Arts while Laurent Pelly’s “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg” at the Teatro Real won the Best New Production.
Best Initiative or Project that contributes to the diffusion of Opera was awarded to Escola d’Òpera de Sabadell while the Best production of the year was awarded to Ópera “Gal·la Placídia” with music by Jaume Pahissa.
