The Prague State Opera has announced a cast change for its upcoming production of Beethoven’s “Fidelio.”

The company announced that soprano Emily Magee will no longer be appearing in the role of Leonore in January 2020. As a result, soprano Erika Sunnegårdh will takeover the run of January performances.

Swedish soprano Sunnegårdh recently performed the role of Regan in Reimann’s “Lear” at the Opéra National de Paris and Fondazione del Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino as well as the title role in Puccini’s “Turandot” at Oper Köln Staatenhaus. She also sang the title role in R. Strauss’ “Salome” at the Teatro Regio di Torino, as well as the role of Senta in “Der Fliegende Holländer” at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden and Oper Frankfurt. This season Sunnegårdh will reprise the role of Regan in “Lear” at the Teatro Real de Madrid in April.

“Fidelio” opens on Jan. 9 and runs through March 28, 2020.
