Potsdam Sanssouci Music Festival Unveils 2023 Slate

The Potsdam Sanssouci Music Festival has unveiled its 2023 summer schedule. Here is a look at the vocal performances.

First up is “Mendelssohn and Friends” featuring soprano Christina Gansch. The performance will also feature the {oh!} Orkiestra Historyczna and the program will include music by Mendelssohn, Rossini, Spohr, Meyerbeer, and von Weber, among others.

Performance Dates: June 10, 2023

Next up is Andrea Bernasconi’s “L’Huomo.”

The work will be led by Dorothee Oberlinger who conducts Ensemble 1700. The showcase, which will be directed by Nils Niemann, stars Philipp Mathman, Maria Ladurner, Francesca Benitez, Florian Götz, Alice Lackner, Simon Bode, Anna Herbst, and Johanna Rosa Falkinger.

The performance will also feature music by Hasse, Galuppi, and Wilhelmine of Bayreuth. 

The concert has a duration of three and a half hours with one intermission. It will be performed in Italian and features German surtitles.

Graindelavoix performs motets by Josquin Desprez, Pierre de la Rue, Nicolas Gombert, Thomas Tomkins, Alonso de Tejeda & Antonio de Ribera.

Voces Suaves performs motets and madrigals by Franck and Schein.

Tenor Benedikt Kristjánsson leads “Judaspassion,” which features music by Bach and lyrics by Amos Oz. He is joined by the Ensemble Continuum.

Next up is Charpentier’s “David et Jonathas” which will be conducted by Gaétan Jarry and directed by Marshal Pynkoski. The opera stars David Tricou, Caroline Arnaud, David Witczak, François-Olivier Jean, Antoine Rondepierre, Geoffroy Buffière, and Virgile Ancely.

Performance Dates: June 16 & 17, 2023

Soprano Graciela Gibelli will headline a concert featuring music by J.C. Bach and Abel. Vittorio Ghielmi leads Il Suonar Parlante Orchestra.

Performance Dates: June 18, 2023

Tenor Johannsen joins pianist Florian Birsak and cellist Ursina Maria Braun for “Schubertiade.”

Performance Dates: June 19, 2023

Soprano Magadelen Harer will join Marini Consort Innsbruck, under Matthijs Lunenburg, for works by Schütz, German Schien, Scheidt, and Gabrieli.

Performance Dates: June 22, 2023

Finally, the company will present Bernardo Pasquini’s “Idalma” with a cast starring Diego Godoy, Margherita Maria Sala, Rocco Cavalluzzi, Morgan Pearse, Juan Sancho, Anita Rosati, and Arianna Vendittelli. Alessandro De Marchi conducts the Innsbruck Festival Orchestra. Alessandra Premoli directs.

Performance Dates: June 23 & 24, 2023

Sopranos Marie Perbost and Claire Lefilliâtre will headline “Diva Showdown” alongside Les Épopées and music director Stéphane Fuget. The concert features music by Händel, and Bonocini.
