Portland Opera To Present ‘As One’
By David SalazarLaura Kaminsky, Mark Campbell, and Kimberly Reed’s “As One” will get a run of performances at the Portland Opera throughout the last week of March.
The performances will star Hannah S. Penn as Hannah after while Lee Gregory performs as Hannah before. Andreas Mitisek will serve as Director, Conductor, Set, and Costume Designer for the production with Connie Yun as Lighting Designer, and Reed as Film Designer.
Audiences can check out the chamber opera on March 22, 24, 26, 28, and 30 at the Newmark Theatre.
Moreover, to celebrate the Portland premiere of the transgender opera, Portland Opera will commission a series of portraits and interviews featuring transgender members of Portland’s community; the project will be curated by award-winning photographer Gia Goodrich.
“’As One’ is an essential human story about the journey of becoming One, Whole, True. We take this journey like every other human, unlike every other human,” said stage director Andreas Mitisek in a press release. “That is the power of the arts – to make us think and reflect, to open new doors into worlds we didn’t know, to remind us of what we each have to offer, and what we all have in common; to help us understand our history and imagine our future; to give us hope in the moments of struggle; and to bring us together when nothing else will.”
