Portland Opera is set to present “The Central Park Five” starting on March 18, 2022.

The opera, composed by Anthony Davis to a libretto by Richard Wesley, will be directed by Nataki Garrett and stars Soltero Donovan as Antron McCray, Aubrey Allicock as Yusef Salaam, Bernardo Holcomb as Kevin Richardson, Nathan Granner as Kharey, Victor Ryan Robertson as Raymond Santana, Johnathan McCullough as The Mask, Ludwig Hannah as Assistant District Attorney district, Sanders Cristinas as Donald Trump, Ibidunni Ojikutu as Antron’s mother.

The showcase will also feature local and regional musicians who make up the Portland Opera Orchestra.

“The Central Park Five” is set in New York City, and focuses on five Black teenagers who were falsely accused of rape and assault and forced to confess, making the defendants and their families victims of grave injustices.

“This story is based on one of the most recognizable racial injustices of 1989 and 30 years later the racial injustice continues. We look forward to bringing this piece to our community as we welcome an incredible team of creators and artists to Portland Opera,” said Sue Dixon, CEO of Portland Opera, in an official press release.
