Portland Opera Announces New Interim Artistic Director

By Francisco Salazar

The Portland Opera has announced that Daniel Biaggi will join the company this fall in a newly established role as interim artistic director.

Biaggi is the outgoing general director at Palm Beach Opera and artistic advisor to the Atkins Young Artist Program at the Mariinsky Theatre. He is also the founder of Daniel Biaggi Consulting.

In his new role with the Portland Opera, Biaggi will focus on artistic planning for the next two seasons, an artistic leadership role for the current season, and will also collaborate with the company to plan and execute a search for a permanent artistic director.

“I’m thrilled and most grateful to join Portland Opera, and work with Sue, the Board and Staff, and the whole Portland Opera family during this time of renewal and growth for the company,” Biaggi said in a press release. “The dedication of the Board and company to have gone through a strategic analysis is inspiring. I’m excited to help implement the resulting new strategic plan, in order to, among other aspects, find an increasingly exciting mix between operatic internationalism and strong local connection to Portland’s artistic and overall community.”
