Polish National Opera to Present Semi-Staged ‘Rigoletto’

The Polish National Opera is set to present a semi-staged production of Verdi’s “Rigoletto.”

Following the cancellation of “Carmen” due to COVID-19, the company will go ahead with performances.

The company stated, “despite the COVID-19 absences within our team, we have decided to go ahead with the upcoming run of ‘Rigoletto’ in a semi-staged version.”

The sumptuous scenery for the production is by the legendary Ezio Frigerio, who recently died and period costumes are by Franka Squarciapino.

The cast will include Ho-Yoon Chung as the Duke of Mantua, Nikoloz Lagvilava as Rigoletto, Aleksandra Olczyk as Gilda, Wojtek Gierlach as Sparafucile, Anna Bernacka as Maddalena, and Iurie Maimescu as Monterone. The second cast will include Rafał Bartmiński, Jorge Lagunes, Hanna Okońska, Wojtek Gierlach, and Anna Bernacka. Andriy Yurkevych and Piotr Staniszewski conduct.

“Rigoletto” will be performed on Feb. 18, 19, 20, and 22, 2022.
