Pocket Opera Unveils 2020 Season
By David SalazarCalifornia-based Pocket Opera has announced its 2020 season which will feature five operas throughout the year, including a unique double bill.
The season opens with Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” with Anders Froehlich in the title role. Chris Filipowicz, Kevin Gino, Mitchell Jones, Sara LeMesh, Jaime Korkos, and Rabihah Dunn will take on the other major roles in the opera. César Cañon will be the music director for the production.
Performance Dates: March 1, 8, 15, 2020
Mascagni’s “Cavalleria Rusticana” will be paired with Offenbach’s “The Cat Became a Woman” as part of a unique double bill. David Gustafson, Marcelle Dronkers, and Harlan Hayes will appear in the Mascagni opera with Chelsea Hollow and Sam Faustine starring in the Offenbach piece. David Drummond conducts with Nicolas A. Garcia directing.
Performance Dates: March 31, April 5, 2020
Wagner’s “Das Liebesverbot” will star Ellen Leslie and Patrick Hagen with Jonathan Khuner conducting and Nicolas A. Garcia directing.
Performance Dates: April 26, May 3, 2020
“Carmen” takes center stage with Silvie Jensen in the title role. She will be conducted by Frank Johnson with Michael Mohammed directing.
Performance Dates: June 7, 14, 21, 2020
The season ends with “La Cenerentola” starring Kindra Scharich, Xavier Prado, Igor Vierira, and Lee Strawn. The opera will be presented in co-production with Cinnabar Theater and the Mendocino Music Festival. Mary Chun conducts with Elly Lichenstein directing.
