Plácido Domingo’s Operalia Competition Announces Competition Dates & Venue

The Opera Competition has announced that its 2019 edition will be held in Prague, the Czech Republic.

The competition, known to launch the next generation of opera singers, will begin accepting applications between Nov. 15, 2018, and February 1, 2019. The competition is open to singers of all voice types, between the ages of 18 and 32 years old and who are ready to perform on the world’s great opera stages.

All contestants will have to prepare four opera arias in their original language and, if they wish, they can add two Zarzuela arias in order to compete in the Zarzuela section of the competition.

Recent winners include Adela Zaharia, Emily D’Angelo, Levy Sekgapane, Elsa Dreisig, Rachel Willis-Sorensen, Aida Garifullina, Anthony Roth Costanzo, Pretty Yende, Rene Barbera, and Sonya Yoncheva.

The competition will be held from July 21 to July 26, 2019.
