Plácido Domingo’s Operalia Announces 40 Participants For 2018 Competition
By Francisco SalazarThe Operalia Competition has announced the 40 singers that were selected to participate in the 2018 Showcase at the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon, Portugal.
The competition founded by Plácido Domingo will see such singers as Metropolitan Opera National Council Audition winners Samantha Hankey and Vanessa Vasquez, Metropolitan Opera Lindemann Young Artists Rihab Chaieb and Petr Nekoranec, LA Opera’s Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist Summer Hassan, and international singer Pavel Petrov.
Plácido Domingo’s Operalia, The World Opera Competition, was founded in 1993 by Domingo to discover and help launch the careers of the most promising young opera singers. The goal of the competition was to attract singers of all voice tessituras and from every country in the world ranging from 18 to 32 years of age.
Last year’s winners include Adela Zaharia and Levy Sekgapane.
Dates for the competition have yet to be announced.
