Plácido Domingo Resigns from AGMA & Donates $500,000 Amidst Coroanvirus Crisis

By Francisco Salazar

Plácido Domingo has resigned from the  American Guild of Musical Artists and has donated $500,000 to a fund that helps opera employees in crisis due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The money will also go to sexual harassment eradication programs.

With the resignation, the union announced that all charges were withdrawn.

The resignation comes after both AGMA and the LA Opera found Domingo guilty of sexual misconduct for flirting and proposing sex inside and outside of work.

The investigation however, concluded that there was no quid pro quo as the Associated Press originally reported (see image below).

Domingo’s donation comes as the opera world is currently struggling due to the coroanvirus pandemic which has left thousands jobless. Every opera company has closed down due to orders of social distancing.

A number of Domingo’s commitments have also been canceled due to the virus outbreak including his Lucerne concert.
