Placido Domingo’s representative Peter Hofstötter has died.

Domingo announced the news on social media horning his longtime friend and representative.

He said, “My Dearest Peter, There are no words to describe the great emptiness and sadness that overwhelms me with your passing. We saw each other just a few days ago in Vienna, with the promise to meet again soon at some concert here and there. In Budapest you were with me one month ago, as always, precise and attentive to everything I could possibly need, to support me once more.

“Sixty years of friendship between us. Sixty years of great, silent support, and your always meticulous work with extreme precision in managing every detail. Sixty years of music too, because you loved opera so much, and it was precisely through this passion that we met sixty years ago in Vienna, in 1967. How many moments we shared: so many beautiful moments, but with generosity you were with me even through life’s most difficult trials, always with your caring loyalty. You were a support to my family as well, and for almost three years you looked after Placi like a son when he was studying in Vienna. You gave me serenity, strength, and support in thousands of performances around the world. My dear friend Peter, may God welcome you with open arms into His Kingdom and grant you that peaceful rest you so richly deserve. Holding your entire family close. With affection, always Yours, Plácido.”

Soprano Angela Gheorghiu also mourned the loss and said, “It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Peter Hofstötter. A true gentleman, always ready with a smile and a compliment, warm, friendly and willing to help with the utmost delicacy. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family.  Rest in peace, my dearest Peter! Angela Gheorghiu.”
