Plácido Domingo, Diana Damrau, Mariella Devia Headline Teatro alla Scala’s Streaming Options Through May 8

The Teatro alla Scala has unveiled its streaming slate all the way up to May 8, 2020. All performances can be viewed on Rai5 or RaiPlay.

On April 28, 2020, the company will present a 2014 showcase of Verdi’s “Il Trovatore” conducted by Daniele Rustioni. The cast includes Marcelo Álvarez, Maria Agresta, Franco Vassallo, and  Ekaterina Semenchuk.

On April 29, audiences can check out the 1904 version of “Madama Butterfly” conducted by Riccardo Chailly. This performance, which marked the opening of the 2016-17 season, stars Maria José Sirí in the title role alongside Bryan Hymel, and Carlos Álvarez.

On April 30, the company will showcase a 2016 production of “Le Nozze di Figaro” that features a starry cast headlined by Diana Damrau, Markus Werba, Golda Schultz, Carlos Álvarez, Marianne Crebassa, and Andrea Concetti. Franz Welser-Möst conducts.

On May 4, audiences can check out one of Plácido Domingo’s final performances of “Otello” alongside Barbara Frittoli and Leo Nucci under the music direction of Riccardo Muti. The performance opened the 2001-02 season.

On May 6, the company will present “Die Zauberflöte” with Andrea Rost, Paul Groves, Simon Keenlyside, Victoria Loukianetz, Matthias Holle, and Anthony Michaels-Moore under the music direction of Riccardo Muti. This performance opened the 2005-06 season.

Tosca” will be presented on May 7 in a historic performance from 1997 starring Galina Gorchakova, Neil Shicoff, and Ruggero Raimondi. Semyon Bychkov conducts.

A 1997 performance of “Il Turco in Italia” will be showcased on May 8. Mariella Devia, Michele Pertusi, Alfonso Antoniozzi, and Roberto de Candia star with Riccardo Chailly conducting.

The scheduled programming concludes with “Elektra” on May 8 starring Deborah Polaski, Anne Schwanewilms, Felicity Palmer, Robert Brubaker, and Alfred Walker. Semyon Bychkov conducts.
