Plácido Domingo Cancels Performance at Tokyo Olympics

Plácido Domingo has canceled his participation in the Tokyo Olympics.

The Tokyo Olympics organizing committee announced on Friday that Domingo won’t perform at pre-Olympics cultural events in Japan.

In a statement, the legend said, “After thoughtful consideration, I have made the decision not to participate in the kabuki-Opera event due to the complexity of the project,” Domingo said in a statement released through the Tokyo organizing committee.

The committee said in a statement that Domingo has decided not to perform at an event scheduled for April that was meant to bring together opera and traditional Japanese Kabuki theater and officials accepted his decision.

It is the first major cancelation for Domingo since he was accused of sexual harassment by the a number of women via the Associated Press. Neither Domingo nor the organizers mentioned the allegations against him in relation to his withdrawal.
