Plácido Domingo Cancels Staatsoper Hamburg Performances Due To Coronavirus Outbreak

Plácido Domingo has canceled his upcoming performances at the Staatsoper Hamburg.

The theater announced in a press release that due to medical recommendations regarding his regarding age and a higher risk of infection of the coronavirus, Domingo has opted out of performances scheduled on March 22, 26, and April 2.

The Staatsoper Hamburg stated, “We understand and respects this decision and we are working to find a later date for Domingo to perform with the company.”

Domingo is the latest singer to cancel due to the coronavirus outbreak. Elena Mosuc was forced to cancel her 30th anniversary concert in Romania, while Ildar Abdrazakov was forced to postpone his recital in Bordeaux. Thomas Hampson was also scheduled to perform with the Israel Philharmonic but was unable to perform due to strict quarantine measures.

Andrzej Dobber will replace Domingo on March 22 while Luca Salsi will replace him on March 26 and April 2, 2020.
