Plácido Domingo Cancels Performances at Bolshoi Theatre

By Francisco Salazar

Plácido Domingo has canceled his upcoming performances at the Bolshoi Theatre.

The singer was set to headline a gala entitled “Primavera” on March 8 and was set to conduct a production of “La Traviata” starring Irina Lungu.

Domingo has had a long affiliation with Russian opera houses as he has performed numerous galas in recent years at the Bolshoi Theatre and is a regular guest of the Mariinsky Theatre. With the cancelations, Domingo becomes the latest prominent figure to cut ties with Russian theaters following Elina Garanca, Piotr Beczala, and Ingo Metzmacher, among other musicians.

The singer next performs at the Hungarian State Opera, Dubai Opera, and Versailles. He is also scheduled to perform at the Teatro Colon and the Baden-Baden Festival.
