Placido Domingo was forced to cancel midway into the performance of “Nabucco” on June 5 at the Semperoper Dresden.

The legendary artist, who was making his house debut, canceled after Act two due to the flu. As a result, Markus Marquard was forced to perform on the podium with the production manager acting on stage.

The evening was to be a historic night as Domingo was singing at the Dresden house for the first time. He has previously performed the role of Nabucco at the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House, Wiener Staatsoper to great acclaim.

Domingo was joining Saioa Hernandez, Massimo Giordano, and Vitalij Kowaljow in the production.

Domingo is slated to return to the stage for a concert in Madrid on June 7 and to Dresden for performances on June 9 and 15, 2019.
