Pittsburgh Opera to Present ‘Curlew River’

By Francisco Salazar

Pittsburgh Opera will open the 2026 year with the Pittsburgh premiere of Benjamin Britten’s “Curlew River.”

The work will be performed between Jan. 24 and Feb. 1, 2026 and will star Erik Nordstrom, Logan Wagner, Matthew Soibelman, and Yazid Gray.

Antony Walker will conduct a production by Dana Kinney.

“Curlew River” tells a story of a woman driven mad by the mystery of her lost son. The work is based on the Japanese Noh play “Sumidigawa River.”

For the each performance, Ticketholders will be invited to attend a Pre-Opera Talk one hour before start time and will get to learn about the composer, the story, and some juicy details about the opera. There will also be a chance to meet the artists after the Jan. 27 performance.
