Pittsburgh Opera to Host Online Gala

Pittsburgh Opera is set to hold its season-ending fundraising gala Maecenas XXXVI virtually on Sunday, June 14, 2020.

The event will feature a live pre-show with Natalie Bencivenga starting at 7 p.m. EDT. This portion of the event will be free to the general viewing public via the company’s Facebook page.

Starting at 7:30 will be a pay-per-view showcase featuring new content, including three live performances by several of the company’s Resident Artists. The event is set to run for 45-minutes.

The gala will celebrate individuals who have contributed to the performing arts in Pittsburgh. Among the honorees will be Vincent Sarni of PPG Industries, who will be given the Lifetime Achievement Award. Pittsburgh Opera General Director Christopher Hahn will be awarded the Renaissance Award for his accomplishments over the last 20 years with the company.

“Just because we can’t be together in person doesn’t mean we don’t have a lot to celebrate,” Pittsburgh Opera Director of Development Michael Braxton said in a press release. “Through this online event, which we are calling the Maecenas Mask-erade, we will be able to honor these two distinguished people and enjoy this vibrant, resilient art form, while still raising money for one of Pittsburgh’s most venerable arts organizations.”
