Pittsburgh Festival Opera Unveils Semifinalists, Judges For Mildred Miller International Vocal Competition

The Pittsburgh Festival Opera is set to present the ninth annual Mildred Miller International Vocal Competition on Oct. 26 and 27, 2019.

The showcase will be hosted by Kip Soteres, the host of Aria 412’s “Opera for Everyone” series. The semifinals are set for Saturday the 26th with the grand finals set for the following day. Eight singers will be chosen for the finals with three selected as winners and a fourth given the “Audience Favorite” accolade.

This year’s semifinalists include soprano Asmik Arutiuniants, soprano Helena Brown, tenor Victor Cardamone, soprano Teresa Castillo, mezzo-soprano Abigail Dock, baritone Charles Eaton, soprano Caitlin Gotimer, baritone Yazid Gray, mezzo-soprano Abigail Levis, soprano Katy Lindhart, soprano Hayley Lipke, bass-baritone Timothy Madden, tenor Stephen Martin, soprano Amber Monroe, mezzo-soprano Max Potter, soprano Elisabeth Rosenberg, tenor Moises Salazar, mezzo-soprano Rebecca Sacks, mezzo-Soprano Polixeni Tziouvaras, and tenor Benjamin Werley.

Among the judges for the competition are William Powers, managing director of the Pittsburgh Opera, Maria Sensi-Sellner, Artistic and General Director of Resonance Works Pittsburgh, Robert Croan of the Post-Gazette, sorano Maria Spacagna, and tenor Robert Chafin.
