Polish tenor Piotr Beczała, currently starring as Cavaradossi in Puccini’s “Tosca” at the Wiener Staatsoper, will receive the title of Kammersänger.
According to Salzburger Nachrichten, the ceremony will take place on Jun. 23, 2019 following the final performance of “Tosca,” which will be broadcast live on Herbert von Karajan-Platz as part of “Oper live am Platz.” Beczała successfully debuted the role in Vienna earlier this season, returning to the stage on Jun. 15 for the second run of performances.
“I am extremely happy and proud that I can join the noble group of opera artists honored with the title of kammersänger,” Beczała shared via his social media on Jun. 13. “Those who know me well know that I do not sing for titles, but this award is special to me, especially since I was nominated by an opera theater so close to my heart!”
