Piotr Beczala, Ermonela Jaho & Carmela Remigio Highlight Top 6 International Weekend (12/15-18)

Three rarely performed works highlight the international weekend with three other repertory staples. There are also two new productions opening with one company premiere. Here is a look at what we recommend.

Halka – Theater an der Wien, Austria

Łukasz Borowicz conducts a new production of Moniuszko’s masterpiece. Mariusz Treliński directs the Austrian premiere with Corinne Winters in the title role, Tomasz Konieczny, and Piotr Beczała.

Don Carlo – Greek National Opera, Greece

Marcelo Puente stars in the title role of Verdi’s epic masterwork alongside Barbara Frittoli and Alexander Vinogradov. The cast also includes Tassis Christoyannis, Rafal Siwek, and Ekaterina Gubanova.

Philippe Auguin conducts Sir Nicholas Hytner’s production.

Cavalleria Rusticana/Pagliacci – Teatro Coumnale di Bologna – Italy

Frédéric Chaslin conducts the famous double bill in productions by Emma Dante and Serena SInigaglia. Mascagni’s opera stars Veronica Simeoni, Roberto Aronica, Dalibor Jenis, and Alessia Nadin.

Leoncavallo’s opera is set to star Stefano La Colla, Carmela Remigio, Dalibor Jenis and Vittorio Prato.

Les vêpres siciliennes – Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Italy

Otello – Royal Opera House, United Kingdom

Sir. Antonio Pappano conducts the revival of Keith Warner’s acclaimed production starring Gregory Kunde in the title role, Ermonela Jaho as Desdemona, and Carlos Alvarez as Iago. Catherine Carby and Freddie De Tommaso round out the cast.
