Philip Modinos Stars in Regents Opera’s ‘Siegfried’

By Afton Wooten

Philip Modinos is set to take on the title role in Regents Opera’s performance of Wagner’s “Siegfried.”

Modinos is joined by Catharine Woodward as Brünnhilde and Holden Madagame as Mime, along with Ralf Lukas who takes up the role of the Wanderer following the passing of Keel Watson. Oliver Gibbs, Craig Lemont Walters, Mae Heydorn, and Corrine Hart are also among the cast.

This cycle is conducted by the company’s Artistic Director Ben Woodward, who has also helmed the hefty process of rearranging the score originally intended for 90 instruments, down to just 23. Caroline Staunton, who co-directed a new production of Wagner’s “Tannhäuser” with Kornél Mundruczó at Staatsoper Hamburg directs Regents’ full Ring.

The three-year-long Ring cycle began in Nov. 2022 with Regents’ production of “Das Rheingold,” followed by “Die Walküre” in May of this year. The remaining opera, “Götterdämmerung” will close the cycle in late 2024.

“Siegfried” will take place at the Grand Temple’s Freemasons’ Hall in London Feb. 4 – 10.
