Philip Glass to be Guest of Honor at Opera Parallele’s October Gala

By Logan Martell

On October 10, 2018, Opera Parallele will be holding its 2018 gala benefit to aid in their ongoing commitment to promote the arts through their education and community outreach programs.

The theme of this year’s gala, “Creative Rebels,” will honor such figures as Harvey Milk, Georgia O’Keeffe, Steve Jobs, Julia Child, and Sister Helen Prejean, with a montage opera created by Opera Parallele’s artistic team. Among the performers for that evening are mezzo-soprano Eve Gigliotti, baritone Robert Orth, bass Kenneth Kellogg, and resident pianist Keisuke Nakagoshi. Guest of honor Philip Glass will give a special performance that is sure to be the highlight of the evening.

Opera Parallele’s gala, titled “Up Close and Parallele,” will also celebrate the company’s upcoming 2018-19 season, which features the world premiere of “Today It Rains,” an opera inspired by a formative moment in the artistic life of Georgia O’Keeffe. Heading up the creative team for the season are founding Artistic Director/ Conductor Nicole Paiement, and Creative Director Brian Staufenbiel.

Tickets for “Up Close and Parallele” are priced from $300 to $500; tables and sponsorships are also available from $5,000 to $15,000, all of which goes towards Opera Parallele’s productions and education programs.
