The Philharmonic State Orchestra Hamburg will perform Pergolesi’s “Stabat Mater” alongside Alfred Schnittke’s “Viola Concerto” at the Elbphilharmonie’s Grand Hall on Oct. 25 and 26, 2026, as part of the second edition of its festival “Die Blaue Woche.”

Omer Meir Wellber, general music director of the Hamburg State Opera and the orchestra, will conduct. Aloisia De Nardis and Janetka Hoşco will perform the Pergolesi, and Lawrence Power will be the soloist in the Schnittke. De Nardis and Hoşco are members of the Accademia del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, with which the orchestra is cooperating on the concert. Bernd Gallasch is the lighting designer.

All of this is reflected in a very special way in the two works of the evening: on the one hand in Pergolesi’s beloved ‘Stabat Mater,’ one of the most beautiful works in music history. On the other hand in Schnittke’s Viola Concerto, in which, through the story of the Virgin Mary, we experience Schnittke’s life story in a very special way. As part of the other Blue Concerts, we are also looking for exciting connections between opposites and ambivalences. I wish our visitors many surprising, inspiring and captivating moments,” Wellber said, per an official press release.

The Oct. 25 showcase kicks off at 11 a.m. local time with the Oct. 26 performance set to commence at 8 p.m. local time.
