Peter Mattei, Lise Lindström, Violeta Urmana & Julia Kleiter Lead Spain National Orchestra and Chorus’ 2021-22 Season

The Spain National Orchestra and Chorus has announced its 2021-22 season featuring world-class soloists and some of the greatest masterworks in the repertoire.

For this article, we will only focus on the vocal and operatic performances.

David Afkham conducts Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 with soloists Julia Kleiter and Karen Cargill.

Performance Dates: Oct. 8-10, 2021

Miguel Ángel García Cañamero conducts the national chorus in a program of music by Robert and Clara Schumann and Brahms.

Performance Date: Nov. 16, 2021

Paloma Friedhoff, Marta de Andrés, Jesús Cantolla, and Enrique Sánchez-Ramos perform a program of music by Ana Vázquez Silva, Joaquín Nin-Culmell, Robert Schumann, Sebastián Mariné, and Tiago Derriça. Luis Aguirre conducts the Sonor Ensemble.

Performance Date: Nov. 22, 2021

Marc Minkowski conducts Lili Boulanger’s “Faust et Helene” with soloists Sylvie Brunet-Grupposo, Julien Henric, and Alexandre Duhamel. The program also includes Schumann’s Symphony No. 1.

Performance Dates: Dec. 3-5, 2021

Carmen Gurriarán, Idoris Duarte, Marta Caamaño, Marta de Andrés, José Antonio Carril, Ángel Rodriguez, Ángel Rodriguez, Fernando Cobo, and Daniel Oyarzabal perform a program of music by Javier Busto, Gabriel Erkoreka, and Jesús Guridi.

Performance Date: Feb. 1, 2022

Miguel Harth-Bedoya conducts the national chorus in a program of music by José María Sánchez-Verdú and William Walton.

Performance Dates: Feb. 11-13, 2022

Adriano Banchieri’s “Il Festino” will be performed by Paloma Friedhoff, Rosa Miranda, Ainara Morant, Emiliano Cano, César Hualde, Alejandro Marías, Amanda Recacha, and Rodrigo Guerrero.

Performance Date: Feb. 17, 2022

Patricia González Arroyo, Carmen Gurriarán, Paloma Friedhoff, Margarita Rodríguez, Rosa Miranda, Manuela Mesa, Laura Ortiz, Marta Caamaño, and Helia Martínez perform an evening of music by Eva Ugalde, Javier Busto, Albert Alcaraz, Mercedes Sánchez Lucena, Eva Ugalde, and Miquel Ortega.

Performance Date: March 1, 2022

David Afkham conducts Bach’s Messa in Si Minor with soloists Robin Johannsen, Sophie Harmsen, Yeremy Ovenden, and Konstantin Wolff.

Performance Dates: April 8-10, 2022

Alfonso Martín leads soloists Margarita Rodríguez, Rosa Miranda, Beatriz Oleaga, Helia Martínez, Diego Blázquez, Diego Neira, José Antonio Carril, Pedro Llarena, and Jesús Camp in a program of music by Carl Loewe, Johannes Brahms, Fanny Mendelssohn, Gustav Mahler, Clara Schumann, Robert Schumann, Hugo Wolf, and Max Reger.

Performance Date: April 19, 2022

Pablo Rus Broseta leads the national chorus and orchestra in music by Bartók and Rachmaninov.

Performance Date: May 1, 2022

Emmanuelle Haïm conducts a program of Handel with music by Lenneke Ruiten.

Performance Date: May 13-15, 2022

Rebeca Cardiel, Paloma Friedhoff, Francesca Calero, Beatriz Oleaga, Mar Campo, Marta Caamaño, and Brais G. Maceiras perform an evening of music by Bernstein, ABBA, Joplin, Mancini, Schönberg, Rodgers, and Webber.

Performance Date: June 21, 2022

David Afkham conducts R. Strauss’ Salome with soloists Lise Lindström, Tomasz Konieczny, Barry Banks, Violeta Urmana, and Alejandro del Cerro. 

Performance Dates: June 24 & 26, 2022

David Afkham conducts soloists Katharina Konradi and Peter Mattei in the Brahms German Requiem.

Performance Dates: July 1-3, 2022
