Pentatone has announced that it will be releasing the debut recording of Missy Mazzoli and Royce Vavrek’s “Proving Up.”

The release, which is set for August 21, 2020, will feature the original cast recording from Opera Omaha. Those cast members include Michael Slatter, John Moore, Talise Trevigne, Abigail Nims, Cree Carrico, and Andrew Harris.

The opera was co-commissioned by the Washington National Opera, Opera Omaha, and Miller Theatre at Columbia University, and had its world premiere at the Kennedy Center during the 2017-18 season. The opera was promptly selected as the “Best New Work of 2018” by the Washington National Review and “Best Classical Music in 2018” by The New York Times. It was also a runner-up for Musical America’s “Best New Opera Award.”

“Proving Up” is the third collaboration between Mazzoli and Vavrek. The duo is already working on its next effort, entitled “The Listeners.”
