Pentatone to Celebrate Oxingale’s 25th Anniversary with Luna Pearl Woolf’s: Fire and Flood’

By Greg Waxberg

Luna Pearl Woolf’s record label Oxingale is celebrating its 20th anniversary with the release of the composer portrait album, “LUNA PEARL WOOLF: Fire and Flood,” 25 years of dramatic music for voices and instruments, featuring The Choir of Trinity Wall Street, cellist Matt Haimovitz, and others, conducted by Julian Wachner.

Woolf and Haimovitz co-founded Oxingale Productions, Inc. in 2000 as the first artist-owned classical record label with widespread distribution.

The duo sought to give artists the freedom to follow their creative vision and bring recorded and performed music into places and settings that weren’t necessarily condoned by the major labels of the time (such as coffee houses and rock clubs).

“This proved quite prophetic because it is now the norm to hear classical music in unusual settings, and for artists to feel empowered to make their own recordings,” Woolf stated in conversation with OperaWire.

Oxingale is now partnered with Pentatone, resulting in worldwide physical and digital distribution.
